His father was the founding Concertmaster of the Charleston Symphony. As such, Harry met musical legends such as Arthur Rubenstein, Yasha Heifetz, Nathan Milstein, and The Budapest Quartet.
Jonas Gerard is quite a character and his life is as colorful as his art. Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Jonas immigrated to the United States at a young age and spent time making movies and painting in New York as a teenager. His travels took him around the United States and Mexico and his stories are incredible. This clip is a trailer for the feature film about Jonas' life, philosophy, and art.

This is a scene from the feature-length Lifestory of Harry Bekenstein. Harry was born in 1916 in Charleston, West Virginia and entered the Pacific Theatre of WWII as a young man. Among his stories about WWII is the tale of the sinking of the USS President Calvin Coolidge and being stranded on a Japanese Island for many months with nothing to eat but coconuts. When food was dropped to the men two months later, it was canned coconut meat.
